Puzzle #7: MP3 Quality

None of the below facts are necessarily true.

Given the information that:

  • The files size of an MP3 is directly proportional to it’s bit rate
  • An MP3 of a track with the same file size as the uncompressed AIFF of the track has the same quality as the AIFF
  • FLACs have the exact same quality as an uncompressed AIFF of the same file at 54% of the file size

If you have a copy of Bon Iver’s “Blood Bank,” the title track of his latest EP of the same name as a 256 kbit/s MP3 with a file size of 4.8 mb, and a FLAC of the same song with a file size of 18.3 mb, then approximately how many kbit/s would the MP3 have to have in order to be full quality?

Sorry it’s late. I’m really lazy.
