Ready, Set, Go ... Wait I Don't Have A Watch!
Chimayo has two candles with him. These candles made by Alec look nothing alike and the wax is of varying thickness and do not burn consistently (i.e. it’s possible that in the first minute 90% of the candle is burnt and in the last 59 minutes the rest is burnt). But Alec however guarantees that each candle burns for exactly one hour. Now Chimayo wants to time 30 minutes because Alec wants...
The Rare Illness and the Cure
One day Alec wakes up feeling slightly queasy. He goes to his doctor, Chimayo who tells him that he has caught a serious disease that will leave him as dead as a doorknob. But there is a cure. The cure is to take one A pill and one B pill everyday for 15 days. The doctor has luckily only 15 pills, and there is no one else in the world who can get pills to Alec within 15 pills. So Alec goes home...

#11: Math Party
Alec has been cordially invited to Chimayo’s Math Party. Alec starts off at his home which is 13 miles east and 8 miles south of Chimayo’s house. As Alec steps out the door of his house, he remembers that in any cordial Math Party one must always bring some stream water. The stream is perfectly straight and runs east to west. The stream however is 18 miles south of Alec’s house....

Puzzle #10: Mother's Day Malady
Happy Mother’s Day!
Little Johnny wanted to get his mother a gift for Mother’s Day. Unfortunately he only had 96 cents. Johnny decided that he had 4 possible solutions to his problem:
Spend his money on his lottery ticket. In this scenario there is a 9/10 chance he will lose all his money, a 1/20 chance he will double his money, an 0.049999999 chance he multiply his money by 10, and...

Puzzle #7: MP3 Quality
None of the below facts are necessarily true.
Given the information that:
The files size of an MP3 is directly proportional to it’s bit rate
An MP3 of a track with the same file size as the uncompressed AIFF of the track has the same quality as the AIFF
FLACs have the exact same quality as an uncompressed AIFF of the same file at 54% of the file size
If you have a copy of Bon...
Puzzle #6: 5 card flush
Chimayo and Alec are player 5 card poker.
Alec scored a straight-flush in the first game
Incidentally enough, so did Chimayo.
The amazing part is that Chimayo scored a higher straight-flush than Alec in the same suit
What is the probability of this happening?

Puzzle #4: Solution (irrational square root of 2) →
Sorry for not posting yesterday! With the relaxed days of winter break long gone, we’ve decided to drop down to just 2 puzzles a week for the time being. Hopefully by doing this we can fill our goal of presenting quality, if not quantity (ack! cliche!).
Being tired and lazy tonight, here is the link to the proofs on Wikipedia. I highly suggest the one labeled, “Proof by Infinite...

Puzzle #2: Alec, Bamilu, and Chimayo dig a well
Alec, Bamilu, and Chimayo need to dig a well. If all of them were working together it would take them one hour to dig the well. If Alec and Bamilu would work then it would take them one and a half hours. If Bamilu and Chimayo would work then it would take them two hours. But actually only Alec and Chimayo are working. How long would it take for them to dig the well?
